In the late 1600s the fur trade was the most lucrative business in Canada and controlled by France. A Frenchman, Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, founded Detroit to maintain French control of the fur trade and for his own financial benefit. Local Historian Joseph Oldenburg will be making a presentation on the founding of Detroit City on its 318th anniversary. Join us on Wednesday, July 24th at 7:00 pm in the New School Church at Mill Race Village.
